Greg Forse is the coach of the Hong Kong National Debating Team. Greg’s love for debate started when he was a secondary student at Island School, when he represented Hong Kong at the World Debating Championships. While on the Hong Kong National Debating Team, Greg spoke in seven debates for Hong Kong and was ranked as 33rd top speaker in the world.
Upon graduating from York University with a degree in philosophy, Greg returned to Hong Kong to coach the Hong Kong National Debating team. Greg has been the official coach of the HK National Debating Team since 2008. Under Greg’s direction, Hong Kong broke the final rounds of Doha, reached the third quarter final in Dundee and smashed the speaker points record in South Africa. The current Hong Kong team stands as the most successful ever with two speakers ranked in the top ten in the world.
Greg’s coaching career has led him to coach ten national teams in nine countries and he now holds all but one of the national coaching records. He is the only coach to have taken Hong Kong to an international grand final and the only coach to bring home an official prize from the world championships. He is most proud of being the only coach to have defeated Scotland, Canada and South Africa (all previous champions).
Within Hong Kong he has also coached La Salle College to the Sing Tao final, St Stephens College to the NESTA finals (and won) and GSIS to the HKSDC tournament, which they went on to win. He has worked at many top Hong Kong schools, including South Island School, Wah Yan College, Diocesan Boys School, and Shatin College. As a founding member of the HKSDC he has judged all of the tournaments and is often called on to both prepare and adjudicate debates. Greg combines his love for debate with deep care for his students and immense experience in the field.
At KYP, Greg teaches debate classes at the Junior and Senior levels and heads the KYP Debate program.
