Brian Wong, debate coach, was an Open Quarterfinalist at the European Universities Debating Championships 2017, and the Deputy Chief Adjudicator at the upcoming European Universities Debating Championships 2019. They have advanced to the elimination rounds of 40 open tournaments across three continents, including at three national championships – Sydney Mini 2016, John Smith Memorial Mace English Leg 2016, and China BP 2016. They have won 5 competitions, including PEP IV 2018, Helsinki Open 2017, and the Shanghai International Debate Opens 2016 and 2017. They also reached the finals of 21 tournaments in total, including Manchester IV 2018, Newcastle Mixed Doubles 2017, Singapore Debate Open 2015, Inner Temple IV 2016, Asia Pacific University Open 2017, and Amsterdam Open 2017.
As a judge, Brian judged a Grand Final and chaired an Octo Final at the World Universities Debating Championships 2018, and have judged the Australasians Grand Finals twice. Additionally, they have adjudicated a Grand Final at Oxford IV 2017, and chaired the Grand Final of Northeast Asian Open 2017.
As a coach, Brian led and coached Island School to win the local HKSDC championships whilst they were a student there (many years ago), as well as advancing to the Quarterfinals of the Singtao Championships. They co-organised Flashpoint 2015, coached the Intermediate Squads at the Oxford Union from 2016 to 2017, and have been convening the annual Hong Kong Parliamentary Debating Society Workshops for two years in a row.
Outside debating, Brian is a Kwok Scholar, Rhodes Scholarships finalist, founder of numerous NGOs, and occasional poet.
